bienvendio mexico
well, im finally in mexico. the scenery is BEAUTIFUL and we 5000ft above sea level, which has taken a toll on me, causing dizziness. but its ok. it was more like the first day we were here it was really bad. but now im fine. around us are all these beautiful mountains, and the sun is so warm and beautiful. the mission...is gorgeous. nothing like i expected. the construction is quality construction, and it is a beautiful building and guesthouse we are staying in. we have been working really hard digging trenches (yes), sewing dresses for the s (my main job), and fixing in a fountain to make it work for the first time ever! when the fountain is finished, the kids will be able to play in it while its hot.
two interesting things that happend to me today
1) i experienced my first earthquake this morning!
2) janelle and i just found out that the new orleans team that is from Norht Park is being aired on MTV next week! they are doing a news piece called #an alternative spring break#. How exciting!
Well, dinner is starting, the sun is going down on the mountains, and creating a beautiful pink and purple sunset. i never want to leave here.

burnin' from both ends
Tonight was the LIVE Missions Auction to raise money for our scholarship fund to go towards sending people on trips. We set a goal of $2000 for the live auction, and $2500 over all. Well, we got $2000 on the button tonight, plus we still have the online auction to go! If you are interested, please visit our Online Auction Website which will be up and running sometime this weekend. We have Sox tickets, and tons of other items to choose from. Plus, it's for a good cause.
Anyways. So my roommate, my boyfriend, and I were in charge of putting the show on the road, and I am so tired. I cannot wait to get on the plane next Saturday, open up my magazine, and have nothing to do but look out the window for hours and hours. I just am wanting a slower pace of life right now. The past two nights, I have stayed up til 4:30am working in our University Ministries office organizing donations, printing off fliers, and starting to form the auction. Plus, I've had to tackle classes (4:30am bed times and 8am class times don't mix...but I haven't missed a class yet!), work, and auction stuff...plus cleaning my apartment. Those are pretty much my priorities in that order...so you can't even imagine what our apartment looks like.
Anyways, I received $250 the other day, which was a huge blessing on a Monday morning to see! Now I only have $500 or so dollars to go in 10 days!
Please be praying that I don't get sick from my 7 hours of sleep in the past 48 hours, and that the rest of this weekend will be restful. Thank you for your support so far!

17 days....$750 dollars to go.

Well I'm leaving for Mexico in a little over two weeks. Today we met with our university Presidents wife to talk a little bit more about where we are going, and to learn more about Mexico history, racism, religion, and current stuff going on there. They were missionaries in Guatemala for a number of years, so she has lived near the region of Mexico where we are going, and has visited often.
You can see above where we are going to in terms of where Oaxaca is located. We are flying from Chicago to Ciudad de Mexico (Mexico City) and then to Oaxaca City. From there we'll take a bus into the mountains to get to the orphanage where we are going to be serving at! The orphanage is relatively new (2 years old), so we'll probably be doing labor such as pouring cement and construction. Wooo. That'll be a change from the desk job I've been working the past 5 months.
Here is a video to give you more of a visual of where I am going, and what the FFHM orphanage is all about. Click HERE for the link to a video of FFHM missionaries in Oaxaca right now! The video is a little scary at first because it shows some of the turmoil that has recently happend there. It's all over now, but Mrs. Parkyn said that we'll see remains of it (grafitti, destruction, and stuch) in Oaxaca City when we go.
Please keep praying for our safety and for the funds to be provided for everyone to go. Also, if you want to help support other students, plus win some stuff, please go to www.missionsauction.com to bid on items that have been donated to Global Partnerships. All the money raised from the auction will go into a scholarship fund that helps students financially pay for their partnership trip.

You got the letter!
I'm assuming if you are reading this blog, you have received my support letter!
Thank you so much for your partnership with me through prayer or financial support. It is appreciated greatly!
For the most part, I will post some pictures from last year's missions trip prior to my departure to Mexico on March 10th!
Here are a few images from my trip to the Dominican Republic last Spring.

I really clicked with this little girl in the village of Ramon Santana in the mountains of the Dominican. Her name was Ingri, and she was a hoot as you can tell.

My mentor and trip advisor for the DR trip as well as this year's Mexico trip, Janelle.

This is what we did the first couple days of the trip, chip paint off of a cement porch. If you have ever done that, don't try it.

My trip leader Andrew and myself led worship along with the team at a Spanish speaking Christianization church in San Pedro.

We had some interesting meals in the Dominican, but this was by far the most...unique. It was like warm tapiocca pudding, which I'm sure my dad would have enjoyed (he LOVES tapiocca pudding...), but the team however, did not. I can sometimes be a picky eater, so my motto I adopted for the week was "Lord if I eat whatever is put before me, you HAVE to keep it down". Needless to say, we visited a buffet that I had been to the year before, and one of their main dishes is Stuffed Cow Intestine. I made the mistake of sampling that the year before, and I did NOT try it again. However, I did convince a few of my team members to try it.

The children were always climbing over EVERYONE like this.

This is us trying to start a game of "It-o" (Tag) in Spanish. As you can see...we are translating in our minds.

This is the picture of me and the girl who I wrote about in my support letter. Her name is Maria, and she wants to become a doctor and eventually move to the US. I would LOVE the opportunity to be any kind of service to her in the future.

When we visited a school in the moutains (where they told us we'd be in charge of 50 kids...and we ended up being in charge of 500 kids), Andrew (my co-leader) and Aaron did a clowns ministry which was a hit! They would run from room to room and the children would chase them all throughout the school. It was HILARIOUS!

Our last full day in the Dominican a few of us woke up and walked on the beach as the sun rose. This was an old cement pier that was built off of rock that was already there, and we just sat, talked, and watched the sun come up. Sometimes when I'm frustrated, I'll think of that morning and feel so at peace.
